National ID: This is how to link your phone numbers with NIN (see steps)



Below are a few steps to link your phone number with your NIN.

For MTN users:

 simply dial *785# and get it done in few seconds or Visit https://mtnonline.com/nim/ using your phone or computer. 

For Airtel Users:

 To link your NIN to your Airtel phone number, follow the steps below: 1. Dial *121# on the Airtel line you wish to link. 2. Type 1 for “NIN Capture” and send. 3. Enter your 11-digit NIN and send. Wait for the message confirming your submission. If you get an error, just wait for some time and try again. 

For Glo Users:

 According to Globacom, “all our esteemed customers can now link their National Identification Number (NIN) to their mobile numbers by simply sending 'UPDATENIN NIN FirstName and LastName' to 109. For example, send ‘UPDATENIN 12345678903 Chidera Abdul-Ola’ to 109.”

For 9mobile Users:

 To link your NIN, simply dial *785# using the phone number you wish to link, enter your NIN and submit or; Dial *785#Your NIN# from the phone number you wish to link. The number will be linked to your NIN automatically.

Forgotten your NIN? Don’t remember where you kept your NIN slip? Not to worry, NIMC’s USSD service enables you to retrieve your NIN conveniently using your mobile phone.

To use this service, simply go through the following steps:

  • dial *346#
  • from the options displayed, select “NIN Retrieval”, by typing in ‘1’, if you are using the same phone number you enrolled with for your NIN
  • follow the steps displayed on your screen and provide the required inputs
  • note that using this service attracts a N20 (twenty naira) fee only (deducted from your phone credit balance).
  • If you don't have a NIN yet, kindly visit any local government area near you to register.

In a related report, the federal government approved 173 centers and 30 state government institutions to conduct enrolment. The approved 173 centers and 30 state government institutions to conduct enrolment were thereafter announced on the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) website.
